The resort is ideally situated for golfers who wish to use the course at the Mirage Country Club.

The resort offers one or two bedroom, self-contained apartments with a kitchenette and either a garden or pool view from the balcony. The internal décor of the apartments at the Freestyle Resort is comfortable but stylishly up to date. 12. Port Douglas Sands Resort

 Stay at the Port Douglas Sands Resort, right on the edge of Four Mile Beach and a sedate thirty-minute stroll into town, for a home from home experience. The resort’s spacious apartments can accommodate from two to six guests and have large balconies overlooking the pool area. The kitchens are equipped with everything from ovens to washing machines, and the living area is complete with a TV and DVD player so you can stay in to watch a film or two if you want.

The Port Douglas Sands Resort, even though it is self-catering, has some great facilities. There’s a poolside cafeteria where the continental breakfast, included in your reservation, is served, barbecue pits for guest use and an area where there is entertainment in the evenings.

While the Bay Villas Resort may have villa in the name, the resort is actually several blocks of apartments rather than independent villas. The resort has studio apartments suitable for solo travellers or couples, plus two and three bedroomed ones large enough to accommodate families or groups if you’re travelling with friends.

Whatever room type meets your holiday requirements, they are all fully fitted out with modern furnishings and have all the essential equipment you’ll need for self-catering including a dishwasher. Most have balconies with a pool view too. There are two saltwater pools, one of which is heated, but there is no pool bar or in-house restaurant at the Bay Villas Resort.

If you enjoy staying somewhere unique on your holiday, check out the Dreamcatcher Apartments on Reef Street in Port Douglas. The multi-coloured complex of twelve studio apartments has a style all its own which is very different from your standard holiday hotel.

Although reasonable in price for four-star accommodation in Port Douglas, the apartments are all luxuriously furnished in an individual way, so no two are exactly the same.
